Nobody doubts the need for colour in an office environment. But many have questioned whether a colour printer can deliver competitively priced black & white output. The new ineo+ 550 from DEVELOP promises the best of both worlds: brilliant-quality colour and b/w output at virtually the same price as from a normal monochrome machine. An attractive proposition for businesses considering replacing an existing monochrome machine with a system that also delivers first-class colour.

Patrick Klaus, the ineo+ 550 Product Manager, explains what makes this DEVELOP system different: “It’s no exaggeration to say that the ineo+ 550 marks the dawn of a new era in office document production. You get professional-style quality and features at an office price. The system’s black & white design is as striking as its black & white click price. Whether you’re looking for a professional colour solution or a replacement for your black & white machine, it’s worth taking a good look at the ineo+ 550.”

Professional-style quality
Tests have shown that the quality of output from the ineo+ 550 easily compares with market-leading light production printing systems. The toner particles in the new high-density (HD) polymerised toner are even smaller and smoother than before, which produces crisper and clearer images. The difference is particularly evident when printing large-format posters, for example. The toner’s UV resistance opens up the possibility of completely new applications outside the traditional four walls of the office environment. The first-class image-stabilisation rating for this system is an additional plus point.

Innovative features
Conventional office systems rarely achieve their rated speed in duplex mode. However, a technical innovation in the design of the paper path in the ineo+ 550 ensures that this machine delivers the same speed in simplex and duplex. And duplex naturally slices paper costs in half. That is not the only money-saving feature. The ineo+ 550 has a newly designed fusing unit with innovative inductive heating that delivers the heat precisely where it is needed. Noth-ing is wasted, and that saves energy. Incidentally, the new technology gives the ineo+ 550 a best-in-class warm-up time with the first copy or print available just 85 seconds after switching on. The new fusing unit also works at a lower temperature, which increases the user’s media flexibility, e.g. labels.

Smart design
The ineo+ 550 certainly looks very different from other office systems. But the changes are far from being merely cosmetic. The streamlined design ensures there are no cables to get in the way so that this machine can even stand in the middle of an office. The 8.5-inch full-colour LCD touch panel tilts and swivels to ensure excellent readability, even for wheelchair users or in direct sunlight. And office users can check the system’s operational status without leaving their desks. The blue and orange LEDs of the StatusLine tell them all they need to know.

Plenty more besides
The competitively priced black & white output and low running costs do not come at the ex-pense of sophistication. The ineo+ 550 can handle a wide range of media (up to 300 g/m2 bypass and 256 g/m2 from all cassettes) and offers best-in-class finishing functionality. Tech-nically speaking, the three optional finishing units have a lot in common with DEVELOP’s high-end monochrome systems but have been modified to improve handling of a wide variety of media. A3+ booklets of up to 20 sheets (80 pages) can be produced online or 100 sheets stapled at once. The choice of two controllers is another interesting feature. Uniquely, both controllers can be used parallel, e.g. the standard ineo controller for standard office applica-tions and the optional Fiery controller for jobs where professional colour management, e.g. with ICC Profile support, is required.
All in all, the ineo+ 550 has a lot to offer for high-volume office environments, in-house prin-trooms and professional graphics applications.
